It is time, once again, to expound on the World of Sports. Since I left on my trip to Scotland, here are a few of the things that happened (in Minnesota):
1. The Wild lose to Colorado in the first round of the playoffs. When I left, the Wild were up 2 games to 1 on the hated Avs. They didn't win another game. For the second year in a row, the Wild bow out of the playoffs in the first-round, this year after winning the division. Here is an official TRUE welcome to the Minnesota sports scene to the Wild!! It took some time, but to truly be a Minnesota team, you must have a great regular season and then lose to whoever they play in the first round of the playoffs. Welcome to Minnesota, Wild!
Of course Colorado goalie Jose Theodore was the best goalie to ever strap on pads against the Wild. Theodore was part Patrick Roy, with a touch of Billy Smith, and a pinch of Terry Sawchuck. But, as luck would have it, he was the WORST goalie to strap on pads in their next series against the Red Wings. He looked like me getting schooled in street hockey in the driveway with the kids. He was a Sieve. Colorado got swept by the Wings. That, folks, is The Way It Goes.
By the way, check this out - Minnesota professional sports team's playoff records since 1992:
Wild: 11-18 (3-8 since winning their first two series in 2003)
Wolves: 17-30
Twins: 6-15
Vikings: 5-9
Wow. That is 39-71 since 1992. That stinks. And, if you back out the nice runs by the Wild in 2003 and the Wolves in 2004, it gets even worse. This is why I am paranoid when it comes to sports. These teams are cursed. How did the Twins ever win two World Series in 1987 and 1991? We crossed over into a Parallel Universe. That is the only explanation.
2. Vikings Pick Up DE Jared Allen from Chiefs. OK. Can there be some positivity through the paranoia? This seems to be a good move. This guy had 15 sacks last year for a bad Kansas City team. The Vikes traded a few picks for him, including their 1st overall in the draft (17th overall). Allen is obviously better than anyone the Vikings would have taken at 17. Now, let's return to reality. The question is: Will Allen blow out his knee in minicamp or will he start drinking again and receive his 3rd DWI? I don't know, but I am going to go for the knee thing. This is the Vikes luck, you see. That is The Way It Goes. Logic says the Vikes now have one of the best D-lines in the league and arguably the best running back in the league in Adrian Peterson if he stays healthy. Paranoia still exists, however. And then there is T-Jack at QB. More on that later...
3. Timberwolves finish at 22-60. Nobody really cares, but the Wolves finish with the 4th worst record in the NBA. Mark my words that they will finish with the 7th or 8th pick in the draft. That is The Way It Goes. Al Jefferson is a seriously good player, however.
4. Twins around .500. As you all know, I love the Twins and the Wild. I don't really care about basketball and the Vikings just make me mad. The Twins, however, just do thing right. I don't expect much this year, or next, but in 2010 they should be a contender in the new ballpark. Carlos Gomez has the chance to be the Twins most exciting player in years. They have locked up Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Joe Nathan and Delmon Young for years. They are going to be OK. Hang in there fans. This is The Way It Goes.
That is all for now.
Peace.

jared allen and the defense will really put the pressure on t-jack and chilli. look for JDB to start halfway through the year as the vikes stumble. t-wolves will no doubt get franked in the lottery. carlos gomez needs to hit, or he will not be around long.
Wolves actually tied for 3rd worst and won the coin flip. Worse they can draft is 6th. Don't worry, McHale will still screw it up.
Free - I didn't know that! That has to be the first time in history that the Wolves have won a coin flip in that situation.
So I guess they will pick 6th.
